Kiyomizu-ware / Hirokazu Kato

Zen Character Bowl

This design is based on six Chinese characters chosen by a Zen monk: harmony, joy, luck, treasure, karmic connection, and happiness. Upon deeply pondering their meaning, the monk, who had trained in the Zen tradition for many years, painted them with the sincere wish of realizing the concepts represented by the characters.
These bowls are based on the monk's calligraphy. The characters form the central focus of the bowl design, and each has been hand-made by the award-winning master ceramic artist. ers. Featuring dynamic brush patterns, these bowls touch a deep chord with the viewer.

Kyo Yuzen / Yunosuke Kawabe (instructor)

Yuzen cushion

Yuzen clock (Kanze)

Surprisingly, the yuzen patterns used in kimono were originally designs used to decorate living spaces. The rinpa style of Kyoto, which originated with Ogata Korin during the Edo Period, is designed after natural phenomena. The tradition continued to produce interior art pieces such as folding screens and scrolls.
This Yuzen Style series features korin and yuzen designs arranged to blend easily in modern living spaces. The transparent patterns and colors represent a blend of modern and traditional elements.

Kyo Yuzen silk dyeing / Tomoko Fujii

Tumbler

This item features a double-layer structure of plastic (polyethylene/polypropylene), with our company's hand-done, water-repellant yuzen fabric sandwiched between the inner and outer layers. Light, heat-retentive, and leak-free, this item is ideally portable. The yuzen style utilizes a certain type of cloud, called zuiun—considered an auspicious sign—in its motifs. It also incorporates gold foil to create beautiful patterns.

Yuzen sandals

The sandal thong is crafted of our own hand-done yuzen fabric on the lucky-cloud (zuiun) pattern. The mount is hand-carved of wood and lacquered in black. The sandal fits the foot perfectly, offering a stable and comfortable feel even over many hours of wear. Worn instead of zori, they go extremely well with white tabi socks, and are also stunning in jeans with bare feet.
We currently have three color choices: red, purple, and greenish-blue. They come in Medium and Large for our heeled version, and Medium, Large, and Extra Large without heel.

Nishiki is a traditional weaving method typically used in obi (kimono belts). It features patterns throughout the piece, and exhibits the characteristic luster of silk threads.
These pieces are crafted of a jacquard weave of ultra-fine patterns.
All processes related to the creation of these items, including thread making, dying, crest making, and weaving, are done by master craftsmen. Using silk threads, gold and silver threads, and gold and silver foil, the patterns have been re-arranged to express a blend of Japanese traditional and modern designs. The result is interior decor that perfectly suits modern living spaces.

Jidaigire / Taro Matsumura

Hanging decoration

Our store offers a variety of adorable hanging decorative items of the type said to be hung from the ceiling at the time of the Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival) during the Edo Period. These types of items are believed to originate with hand-made creations created by mothers who wanted to celebrate the Doll Festival for their daughters, even if they couldn't afford expensive hina doll decorations. Parents in all countries have the same feelings of love for their children: here we have the "rice sack mouse" representing abundant grain, and the crane to represent long life. The fabric is all high-quality antique silk. We hope that our customers will enjoy these great Kyoto-made items.

Folding fans / Takahito Mizukami

Yaen Skeletons

Yaen Bats

These men's cotton fans with black-dyed bamboo joints feature original designs bats in the moonlight, and a humorous motif of a skeleton enjoying the nighttime cherry blossoms. Luminous dyes used for the skeleton and the bats glow softly as you walk in dark places.
